Pomodoro Timer

What is the Pomodoro Technique?

The Pomodoro Technique is a time management method developed by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s. It uses a timer to break work into intervals, traditionally 25 minutes in length, separated by short breaks.

How it works

  • Choose a task you want to get done.
  • Set the timer for 25 minutes (this is one "Pomodoro").
  • Work on the task until the timer rings.
  • Take a short break (usually 5 minutes).
  • After every 4 Pomodoros, take a longer break (15-30 minutes).

Why is it effective?

The technique instills a sense of urgency. Rather than feeling like you have endless time to get things done and then squandering those precious work hours on distractions, you know you only have 25 minutes to make as much progress on a task as possible.

Additionally, the frequent breaks keep your mind fresh and focused. Frequent breaks prevent the mental fatigue and exhaustion that often comes with long, uninterrupted work sessions.
